UC Admissions

  • Apply online: admission.universityofcalifornia.edu
  • One online application, select campuses, $70 each (may change for next year)
  • Application filing period: October 1 – November 30;  Application opens:  August 1
  • 9 campuses statewide: visit Naviance or campus website for specific campus information.
  • Highly competitive
  • Complete a-g coursework with a C- or better
  • 10-11 grade academic GPA of 3.0 or higher for eligibility to apply
  • SAT/ACT testing by December of Grade 12; Subject tests not required, but may be recommended for specific majors. Check with specific campus
  • Students who meet the minimum requirements to apply will receive a comprehensive application review
  • Application to include four questions (The Personal Insight Questions):  Choose four prompts out of eight prompts; each response is limited to a maximum of 350 words
  • No letter of recommendation required or accepted

Cal State admissions

  • Apply to each campus separately using ONE online application: www2.calstate.edu/apply
  • Pay for each campus separately : $70 each (may change for next year)
  • Application filing period: October 1 – November 30
  • 23 campuses state-wide; visit Naviance or campus website for specific campus information

  • Complete a-g courses with a  C-or better
  • 10-11 grade academic GPA of 2.0 or higher (this is the minimum to be admissible to the CSU)
  • No letter of recommendation required

community college

  • Must be 18 or a high school graduate to apply
  • California Community Colleges  offer three programs:

Two year degrees: AA or AS

Transfer program to Four year colleges

Certificate programs: A variety of career areas

  • Guaranteed transfer programs specific to the UCs and CSUs.

Private & out of state universities

  • Check individual college website for specific information regarding how to apply, deadlines, and requirements. This is the student’s responsibility!!!!
  • Ways to apply:  Common Application, College’s own website or application, Coalition Application Check with individual campuses for specific information -  www.commonapp.org  or www.mycoalition.org
  • Submit transcripts and test scores upon application (usually required)
  • Letters of Recommendation: If your schools require a letter of recommendation from either a teacher or a counselor, the process regarding how to request a letter will be discussed in the Fall of 12th grade. It is recommended that you begin thinking about teachers who you may ask to write a letter on your behalf
  • Requests for letters of recommendation must be received by a counselor 3 weeks prior to the deadline in order to ensure timely submission
