The Woodbridge High Academic Decathlon team placed 1st overall out of over 40 high schools in the 51st annual Orange County Academic Decathlon, THREE-PEATING as Orange County Champions!

We are now one of only 3 schools in the 51 year history of the county competition to have accomplished this amazing feat!

This year’s team consisted of only 9 students and 4 alternates, and they competed in a series of 10 academic events, ranging from mathematics and social science to speech and interview on this year’s competition theme of the 1960's.

The team has been working hard since last June, meeting after school, on weekends, through Summer and Winter Breaks. 3-peating as county championship is an incredible testament to the dedication, sacrifice, and maturity of this great group of kids.

We believe they represented themselves and the school with pride and have taken our legacy of OCAD success to new heights!

This year our team members are:

- Seniors: Captain Hannah Hui, Sachin Pathuri, Ramanuj Sarkar, Sugnan Suresh, Mark Diamond, Austin Diamond

- Juniors: Snigdha Saha, Chris Lin, Kaylie Tran, Vishnu Menon, Dena Nikjoo

- Sophomore: Yana Khetiya

- Freshman: Iris Shen

All of our team members performed exceptionally well, achieved personal and team goals, and won, in total, 85 individual medals for the various events.

Additionally, our team placed 1st in the county in the all-important Super Quiz team event, which is something we didn't do with the last two championships.

Of special note, many of our team members were at the top of the entire competition for their overall performances and received numerous individual accolades and generous financial scholarships:

Sugnan Suresh placed 1st overall in the entire country for his GPA division

Ramanuj Sarkar placed 2nd overall in the entire county for his GPA division

Mark Diamond had the 11th highest score in the entire competition

Iris Shen had the 6th highest score in the entire county, as a freshman

Snigdha Saha placed 1st overall in the county for her GPA division and had the 5th highest score in the entire competition

Sachin Pathuri had the 2nd highest score in the entire county

And Hannah Hui had the highest score in the entire county and competition for the second year in a row, , AND received an won for the Dr. Robert Peterson Scholarship for her exceptional AcaDeca career that started as a freshman.

As County Champions, Woodbridge has been invited to represent Orange County at the State Competition in Sacramento for the eighth consecutive year, along with the other Top 5 OC Schools, who finished the competition in this order:

1: Woodbridge

2: University

3: Valencia

4: Westminster

5: Trabuco Hills

Heading into the California Academic Decathlon State Competition in March, we will be one of the Top 10 teams in the California, likely placing us in the Top 15 of the entire nation.

We have high goals and expectations for the state competition, and the students are looking forward to improving upon their county scores.

If you see these students, please congratulate them for their incredible hard work and dedication and wish them luck as they compete at the state level in late March!
