IUSD’s Guidance Resources has an innovative program to encourage the development of resiliency skills in young adolescents. These life skills help students improve their communications with peers and adults, and effectively manage the stressful changes associated with adolescence. Research has shown that students who learn how to make healthier academic and social choices have higher grade point averages and less involvement with alcohol and other drugs.
Students involved in Project Success will be offered extra support both personally and socially. They will participate in individual and small group counseling opportunities that will meet once a week during the school day for 8-10 weeks. These counseling opportunities are designed to improve students’ self-esteem, healthy behaviors, attendance, organizational skills, and social skills. The goal of Project Success is to be effective in helping students focus on their behaviors, to make appropriate changes, and to develop life-long coping skills.
